In Anabasis, Characters will be partly created by you, and partly by the GM team. As it is a short game, with some hidden-role style mechanics, we want to ensure that there is a good balance of elements to make the game run well, and be balanced and engaging for everyone. For the GM created elements, there will be an opportunity to tell us where your interests lie, and where possible we will take this on board. Of course you are always welcome to talk to us about any issues you have and we can work together to come up with a solution that you’re happy with. For an idea of what a character might look like, check out our Example Character.
To sign up to Anabasis, please fill in this character creation form by the end of Sunday 10th of August.
This covers your character’s life up until they died. You can define this about yourself, and your character can be from any time period (though please be mindful of the CAT policy when doing so, especially around referencing real-world events). This is only meant as something that your character desires to get back to, so a focus on personal details like friends and family is the more relevant details here. Please note all player character will have been adults when they died.
There are some traits that might interact with your previous life. You might not have any memory of your previous life, or if you're secretly a Demon or Psychopomp then this might actually be a cover story, rather than the truth.
The GMs may also add some details where it’s relevant for your traits.
This is what your character has been up to since they died. They will have made new connections, and had a whole new life in Hadestown. This will be something the GMs will write for you, including some character links (both positive and negative) with other players.
These are more mechanical details of your character. These can include things like relationships you have to other characters, and the restrictions you have on your ticket out of here. You can give us an indication of what kinds of traits you are and aren’t interested in, such as whether you're secretly a Demon or a Psychopomp. We will do our best to accommodate, but we will also need to factor in balance across the whole playerbase.
The kinds of traits you will be asked about in the Character Creation form are (note these do not correspond one-to-one with traits that may be present in the game):
